The Cyclone gymnastics team will host their final home meet of the 2024 season Friday when their in-state rival Hawkeyes comes to Ames.
This final home meet also coincides with senior night. This will be the home crowd’s goodbye to Cyclone seniors Loganne Basuel, Laura Cooke, Emilie Hong, Ana Irene Palacios, Kaia Parker and Lauren Thomas.
The team enters off a strong second-place finish at the NC State Quad-Meet, where the home team narrowly edged out the Cyclones. This strong performance allowed the team to return to their earlier season form, at least for the meet.
Iowa State owns a 2-1 home record but has not hosted since its last overall victory when the Cyclones beat Illinois State on Jan. 26.
The Hawkeyes and the Cyclones enter ranked back-to-back, with Iowa State sitting on top at No. 34 and Iowa at No. 35.
In the all-time series between the two, which began in 1995, the Cyclones have a sharp edge, with 33 wins and 14 losses against the Hawkeyes. However, they own the longest losing streak in series history as the Cyclones have failed to pick up four straight meets against Iowa, with the last win in 2019.
The Hawkeyes enter 4-5, coming off a win Sunday in Sacramento, California. They also have two road wins to their name already this season.
The team averages 196.044 points per meet, less than one-tenth of a point behind the Cyclones, who are averaging 196.090 points per meet.
The first rotation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday and will be broadcast on Big 12 Now through ESPN+.
