The Iowa State softball team will be taking on Houston on Friday and Saturday as the Cyclones play their first games at home this season.
The Cyclones are 9-14 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 play after competing against Oklahoma on the road.
Iowa State went 0-3 after competing against the reigning national champions. The Cyclones finished the weekend by scoring three runs against the Sooners.
While the offense is a vital skill for the Cyclones, the Sooners’ defense and offense was on top the whole weekend. Senior Carli Spelhaug finished the weekend during the last game with a home run, while Angelina Allen, who leads the Big 12 in hits, went hitless.
After competing against Oklahoma, the Cyclones stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to play against Tulsa. However, Iowa State fell to Tulsa 5-1 after only scoring in the seventh inning.
The Cyclones finished the game with three hits, and Allen went hitless once again in Oklahoma.
Iowa State will continue its season playing the first game of the season at home against Houston.
In their first season in the Big 12, the Cougars are starting 1-2 in conference play after competing against No. 3 Texas in Houston. Overall, they are 17-7 on the season.
The Cyclones and Cougars will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Friday and then finish the weekend playing one game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ames.
