The Iowa State softball team is back in the win column following its 8-2 victory over DePaul on Tuesday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
Heading into their matchup with DePaul, the Cyclones were coming off three straight losses in their series against Kansas where they struggled with errors. The Cyclones turned their issues in the field around Tuesday as they had one error against the Blue Demons.
Before coming to Ames, DePaul had an overall record of 8-25 and a 3-9 record in conference play.
Senior pitcher Karlie Charles had a huge impact on the Cyclones’ success, holding DePaul to three hits. Charles also finished the game with five strikeouts and one walk and was the only pitcher for Iowa State in the circle against the Blue Demons.
The offense for Iowa State was on a roll with the help of junior Angelina Allen as she had four RBIs for the day, including a three-run homer.
Senior infielder Alesia Ranches and freshman utility player Tiana Poole joined the home run party, each sending a ball over the fence in the fourth inning.
Iowa State finished the game with eight hits, three from both Allen and Ranches, with Poole and junior outfielder Milaysia Ochoa with the other two.
The Cyclones will be staying at home for their next outings in a three-game series against No. 5 Oklahoma State. The series will start at 4 p.m. Friday, with the next two games being played at 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
