Eric Barker, dean of pharmacy and acting associate provost for graduate programs at Purdue University, was named the second of four finalists to serve as provost, starting in the summer.
Barker will visit campus Wednesday and Thursday, including a campus forum at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Union Sun Room.
Barker earned a doctor of philosophy degree from the Vanderbilt department of pharmacology in 1993. Barker serves as a professor and dean at the Purdue College of Pharmacy as well as an adjunct professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He started at Purdue in 1998 as an assistant professor.
Barker will meet with members of the university community, including President Wendy Wintersteen, deans, Student Government, Graduate and Professional Student Senate, Faculty Senate executive board and the provost search committee, which includes 17 members and chair David Spalding, dean of the College of Business.
Visits consist of meetings with the search committee, enrollment management, members of the Professional and Scientific Council, Faculty Senate, Student Government and Graduate and Professional Student Senate; the meetings will also include a campus tour.
The remaining two candidates, who are unannounced, will visit campus Monday and April 23 and April 29–30.
