Iowa State wrestler Kysen Terukina was arrested for failure to serve jail time Thursday night. Terukina was posted without bond to the Story County Jail, where he is expected to serve jail time, according to Story County Capt. Nicholas Lennie.
According to court records, Terukina’s prior charges include an OWI in July 2021. He was convicted in October 2021, sentenced to two days in jail and forced to pay a fine of $1,250.
According to Lennie, a warrant was issued for Terukina’s arrest by the Ames Police Department.
The Iowa State Athletic Department is aware of the situation but declined to comment on Terukina’s arrest.
According to previous reporting by the Iowa State Daily, this is the second time in 2024 that Terukina has spent time in the Story County Jail. Terukina turned himself in during February after a warrant for his arrest was issued for a probation violation. Terukina was bailed out on a cash bond of $1,000.
Terukina was charged with driving with a denied or revoked license and a second offense of OWI in February 2023. He was sentenced to one year of probation in November after being convicted of driving with a denied or revoked license, while the OWI charge was dismissed, according to court records.
In February 2023, Terukina was charged with failing to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way, but the case was dismissed in November 2023.
