Need an escape from the classroom this fall? The Memorial Union has an array of creative activities planned in the Workspace. From walk-in crafts to art studios and classes, you are sure to find an event that piques your interest.
This week is stacked with different drop-in craft options. A create-your-own plant propagation station is running 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. You can drop into the Workspace to paint a wooden block that will hold a glass vial to propagate plants. There is a community collection of plant cuttings that you can choose from once you finish your creation, which also takes plant-cutting donations to help keep the stash stocked. The price is $12-$16 if you paint in the studio and $15-$19 if you take the craft to go. To find out more about this craft, visit the Workspace webpage.
Another craft option this week is vinyl record painting. The craft will be available to drop in and do or pick up until Sept. 30. It is open to do in the Workspace from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for $8 in the studio or $10 to go. People create all kinds of designs on the records using paint and special markers. More information about this craft is also available on the Workspace webpage.
The last drop-in craft option this week is to paint your own pottery, specifically painting ramen bowls. This craft will be ending Saturday and has the same drop-in hours. After firing, you can pick up your bowl and the MU will even give you a pack of Maruchan ramen noodles to get started with your new bowl. Learn more about the craft here.
Other Workspace events on the calendar this week include needle felting, pottery wheel classes, a woodshop orientation and free family weekend crafts for the festivities next weekend. There will also be drop-in Argentine tango lessons at 4 p.m. every Sunday.
