If you’ve ever thought about getting an Ames Public Library card, now is your time! Throughout the month of Sept., the Ames Public Library (APL) Book Mobile bus will be parked near Kildee Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday. You can browse the current book selection inside the bus and register for a free APL card.
The Ames Public Library is a wonderful outlet to expand your horizons as a student, staff member or citizen of the community. There is so much more to Ames than just what’s on campus.
“The public library offers streaming services, study rooms, technology to digitize photos, slides, and videos and materials for all ages,” Ames Public Library’s community engagement specialist Susan Gent said. “The APL is on the [CyRide] Red Route, so it’s easy to find downtown.”
It has everything a student might need. By registering this month, students are eligible to spin the prize wheel at the truck to win books, snacks, stickers, gift cards and more. What’s not to love?
“The Bookmobile makes it easy for me to place a hold on books online and pick them up on campus,” Lauren Byers, a senior in human health and development and owner of her own library card, said. “An APL account also comes with an audiobook subscription and access to a selection of movies and tv shows as well.”
With all of the above benefits, an APL library card takes students even further than access to Parks Library and is a helpful way to switch up the study scene.
All you have to do to register is bring a photo ID and proof of your Ames address (like a piece of mail or virtual proof of lease) to the Book Mobile bus on campus any Thursday this month. Even out-of-state students can use their temporary Ames address to be eligible for a free APL card.
The Book Mobile bus is hard to miss: next time you see it, take a minute to stop in and explore the opportunities of owning your own APL card.
