David Montgomery:
David Montgomery might not have been a part of the Cyclone reunion that happened in San Francisco on Monday night, but he had a big role in his own prime time game when he helped the Detroit Lions defeat the Los Angeles Rams 26-20 in overtime Sunday night.
Montgomery led the Lions in rushing yards with 91 yards, 45 of which came on the first drive of overtime that ended with Montgomery scoring the game-winning touchdown first and goal from the one yard line.
Brock Purdy:
Brock Purdy picked up right where he left off: playing good, efficient football. He may not have lit up the stats sheet, but he did exactly what the 49ers needed Monday night. Purdy went 19-for-29 for 231 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Purdy may not have done much, but he didn’t have to, as the 49ers’ run game with Jordan Mason was dominant. The 49ers beat the Jets 32-19, moving Purdy’s record to an amazing 25-7 as a starter, while also picking up bragging rights over three fellow Cyclones that were on the opposite sideline.
Allen Lazard:
Despite the loss, two of the Cyclones on the Jets put up big performances, Allen Lazard being one of them.
Lazard hauled in six catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns against a strong 49ers defense. It was clear that the chemistry Lazard had built with quarterback Aaron Rodgers during their time in Green Bay had not faded, and they looked very in-sync during the game.
Lazard could be in for a big season with Rodgers under center.
Breece Hall:
The other Cyclone-turned-Jet with a big game was running back Breece Hall.
Hall bounced back nicely after an early fumble led the 49ers to scoring their first points of the night. He came back on the very next drive and scored a touchdown, giving the Jets a 7-3 lead, their only lead of the night.
Hall finished the night with 93 total yards on 21 touches with a touchdown and a fumble.
Will McDonald IV
Will McDonald IV played a decent amount of snaps in the Jets vs 49ers game, but only recorded one tackle.
Kene Nwangwu
Kene Nwangwu was added to the Jets practice squad just prior to their game, so there is a chance we see four Cyclones on the Jets active roster at some point this season, which would be cool to see.
