AMES — The Iowa State and University of Central Florida matchup ended in a no-contest final after a strong first period due to a rain delay.
The Cyclones started their second Big 12 Conference game with a fresh start by adding in players Regan John, Sophia Thomas and Nicolasa Jacobs to the starting lineup to create a more aggressive start.
In previous games this season, Iowa State has been weak in the first half by not taking control of the ball and having missed opportunities on goal. However, the Cyclones impressed early as they were more aggressive than ever this season.
Iowa State started the first half of the game easily taking control of the ball and maintaining a defensive front against the Knights. Although UCF battled back, they were not successful in getting past the Cyclones’ domineering defense.
Although the Knights did have trouble maintaining possession of the ball, they did not fall flat when needing to play defensively, as they ended the game with 12 fouls.
The first half ended with Iowa State achieving three shots on goal, compared to UCF’s two and having a combined total of zero goals.
Coming back for the second half, the Cyclones started off a little rocky with the Knights taking control of the ball before Iowa State had a chance. Iowa State got close to its first goal of the game, however, the ball ricocheted off the goalpost and ended in UCF’s favor.
Although the two teams were battling strongly throughout the next 15 minutes, the game was called due to a rain delay, ending in a no-contest final. The Cyclones ended with a total of six shots on goal and two saves compared to the Knights’ four attempted shots and one save.
