Women’s Soccer: Colorado tops Iowa State 3-1

Following their draw against the Denver Pioneers, the Cyclones faced off against the undefeated Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder, Colorado. The Buffaloes have had good showings so far this season, and Sunday was no different as the Buffaloes won, 3-1.
Coming into the game against the Cyclones, the Buffaloes had outscored their opponents 13-0 in their first four matchups of the season.
Taylor Kornieck and Jorian Baucom scored goals in the first eight minutes for the Buffaloes, and the Buffaloes’ defense held the Cyclones in check early in the half.
However, as the half went on, the Cyclones’ defense was able to get stops, and their offense had some good chances. Brianna Curtis had the best scoring opportunity for the Cyclones in the 39th minute, but the Buffaloes defense held up.
After their two early goals, Colorado went into halftime with a 2-0 lead over the Cyclones.
Early in the second half, Hannah Cade, Courtney Powell and Emily Steil had good chances for the Cyclones in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but Colorado was able to prevent the Cyclones from scoring.
The Buffaloes put in the final goal of the game in 60th minute with a header from Jesse Loren off of an Emily Groark corner kick.
In the 89th minute, senior Klasey Medelberg scored for Iowa State off a pass from Emily Steil. Colorado came out on top 3-1 against the Cyclones.
Iowa State now falls to 1-4-1 on the season. The Cyclones will return home to face in-state rival Iowa on Friday and Milwaukee on Sep. 9.
