Perhaps there is no better time to write than our present moment. Readers of the opinion section have probably become accustomed to seeing these ‘recruitment’ articles and this piece will not be any different.
I am saddened by the overall lack of engagement on our campus, and while I understand writing is a daunting task, university students shouldn’t feel intimidated to offer their input on matters that concern them. That is why I am once again extending the opportunity of becoming a columnist to members of our campus community who might have missed my previous articles.
The questions I most frequently receive from prospective writers are, “What can I write about? Are there any limits?”
Intuitively, one can imagine the limits, but this is not the same as averting controversial issues. If the topic interests you, is appropriate for a university setting and is something you can take a position on, then it has a home at the Daily!
Additionally, there is a fresh incentive to being a columnist: it pays! In my view, getting paid to write is an incredible opportunity and privilege. If you have been considering writing, this is a great opportunity.
Writing has been an essential practice for humanity and I believe that our contemporary moment especially needs people who are unafraid to speak their mind, unafraid to be themselves. This is the description of a writer and all of us can benefit from being one!
I look forward to your future submissions.
