Daymond John, a “Shark Tank” investor and founder and CEO of FUBU, will lecture on his “5 Shark Points: Fundamentals for Success in Business and Life” on Oct. 22 in the Memorial Union.
According to the lecture series preview, John is an award-winning entrepreneur who has received “100s of awards including the Brand Week Marketer of the Year, Advertising Age Marketing 1000 Award for Outstanding Ad Campaign, Ernst & Young’s New York Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was named #2 on LinkedIn’s Top 20 Voices, a list of the top influencers, who are using their voice to help us analyze today’s changing world of work, navigate our industries and find balance.”
John has also appeared on “Shark Tank” for 14 years, earning him eight Emmy nominations and one win. According to Yahoo! Finance, John has invested over $8.5 million of his own money in different “Shark Tank” companies.
“We are excited to co-host Daymond John’s visit to campus next week,” Judi Eyles, director of the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, said. “We are just wrapping up six days of our annual fall pitch competitions, a Shark Tank-style event, so it will be great fun for students to learn from an actual and well-known shark.”
Eyles explained John’s inspirational story, which she believes will empower students.
“Daymond John has a tremendous success story, and I’m sure he will inspire and encourage many of our students, especially those with entrepreneurial aspirations,” Eyles said.
The event will also feature a book signing. The University Book Store will attend the event and will sell four of John’s books, including “Little Daymond Learns to Earn,” “The Power of Broke,” “Rise and Grind” and “Powershift.”
The event will occur at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. It is sponsored by Eventure, the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, the Ivy College of Business, the Student Innovation Center and the Committee on Lectures.
The event will be available online for those with an ISU Net ID two weeks after the event.
