The Ames Police Department arrested a suspect Monday after responding to multiple 911 calls of a male pointing a firearm at a female in an apartment building in the 100 block of Campus Avenue on Friday at 10:25 p.m.
According to a news release Monday from Ames Police Major Jason Tuttle, the male was identified by witnesses as Donovan Prusia, a 21-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska. Prusia allegedly pointed a handgun and “threatened multiple people at a gathering inside the apartment building,” according to the release.
According to the criminal complaint, Prusia “was at a party and became upset with the people at the party.”
“The defendant briefly left the party before returning with a loaded handgun,” the complaint stated. “The defendant stood in the doorway of the apartment and pointed the handgun at multiple people inside of the main room.”
While the defendant was pointing the firearm at people, Prusia allegedly said, “’I’ll shoot every motherfucker in this room.’”
The complaint also stated that several victims barricaded themselves in rooms of the apartment, and “3-4 people jumped out of the window, from the third floor, after removing the screens.”
After officers arrived at the apartment, Prusia allegedly picked up the handgun as officers were approaching him, despite verbal commands to not touch the firearm. Prusia eventually dropped the gun, but allegedly physically resisted as officers put him into custody.
Prusia was arrested by Ames Police and charged with the following:
- Three counts of degree harassment (aggravated misdemeanors)
- False imprisonment (serious misdemeanor)
- Intimidation with a dangerous weapon (class D felony)
- Carrying dangerous weapons while intoxicated (serious misdemeanor)
- Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon (aggravated misdemeanor)
- Interference with official acts (serious misdemeanor)
- Harassment of public official (simple misdemeanor)
In a phone conversation with the Daily, Tuttle said the female detailed in the report was identified as Prusia’s girlfriend.
Tuttle also said Ames Police urges anyone who has any information about this incident to contact the Ames Police Department at (515) 239-5133 or through the anonymous tip line at (515) 239-5533.
