Science on the big screen: Pixar employee to speak about the use of STEM in animation
September 4, 2018
“A Bug’s Life,” “Toy Story 2” and “Finding Nemo” are just a few movies that Danielle Feinberg has helped bring to the big screen.
Feinberg is Pixar Animation Studio’s director of photography for lighting. She will be bringing her experiences to Iowa State in her lecture “The Art of Science: Bringing Imagined Worlds to Life,” which will be held in Great Hall of the Memorial Union Thursday at 7 p.m.
Her lecture will be discussing how math, coding, science and art, work together to create the characters and worlds within Pixar’s animated movies.
Feinberg began her work at Pixar in 1997 after graduating from Harvard University with a bachelor of arts in computer science.
The first film she worked on was Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life.” From there, she found her niche in lighting and went on to help with the lighting in films such as “Monsters, Inc.,” “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille.”
She worked her way up at Pixar and was the director for lighting on the Disney-Pixar’s films “WALL-E,” “Brave” and most recently, “Coco.”
Outside of her job at Pixar, Feinberg is passionate about getting women involved in STEM fields and coding.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
