Freshman Rachel Van Gorp took home the Big 12 Rookie of the Week award for her play during week nine. This is the first time she has won this honor, and she is the 13th Cyclone to take home Rookie of the Week.
In matches against No. 9 Kansas and Kansas State, Van Gorp tallied 37 digs, nine kills, one assist and one ace. She has done it all amidst multiple injuries to outside hitters.
Van Gorp averaged 4.11 digs per set throughout the week which ranked her as seventh best in the conference. Her 20 digs against the Jayhawks led all players and was her third 20-plus dig match.
She pushed her double-double dig streak to five matches when she totaled 17 digs against Kansas State. Van Gorp has two double-doubles on the season along with 235 digs, 39 kills, 34 assists and a team leading 24 aces.
Van Gorp and the Cyclones will be back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday against no. 17 Baylor in Waco. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
