Are you sick of studying for finals in your dorm room, the library or a common area? Iowa State University Museums is hosting a “Study @ the Museum.”
The Christian Petersen Art Museum at 1017 Morrill Hall will host extended study hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.
“The best way for students to stay ahead and meet their goals this semester is to be intentional about study time,” Alison Ranniger, curator for the Christian Petersen Art Museum, said. “Study @ the Museum highlights the museum’s artistic atmosphere and provides a unique alternative to traditional study spaces. Its inspiring environment promotes slowing down and spending time in a creative, calm space.”
There will be relaxing activities, a calming atmosphere and a place to take some time to study for upcoming tests, finals or just crank out some homework.
The hope for Study @ the Museum is to offer students a time to combine academics with the arts.
“The idea originated from our Museum Education Specialists looking to offer innovative solutions to combine student engagement and study needs, inspired by the Prep Week activities offered by Parks Library,” Ranniger said.
There will also be coloring pages from the permanent collections and custom music playlists.
“The University Museums are always free to visit and often used as an alternative study environment,” Ranniger said. “The museum regularly hosts evening programs for students – be sure to check out the University Museums calendar. This is part of our ongoing initiative to utilize the museum creatively as an educational resource for students. The University Museums will continue this Prep Week program next semester on Thursday, May 8, 2025.”
Other events the University Museums host include Yuletide 2024: Winterfest, a celebration of the holiday season at the Farm House Museum, Art Walk: Treasures of Morrill Hall, a public art walk and studies of the historic Morrill Hall and more.
There is no need to RSVP for Study @ the Museum or any of these mentioned events.
“Students can take the stairs or the elevator in Morrill Hall to the first floor to attend the event at the Christian Petersen Art Museum,” Ranniger said.
