Iowa State running back Jaylon Jackson was arrested for operating while under the influence early Sunday morning after allegedly hitting a vehicle in a parking lot with a blood alcohol content of 0.102%, above the 0.08% legal limit.
At 1:25 a.m., Ames Police officers responded to an unrelated call at the Quarters, 601 S. 17th St., when they “came across” an accident nearby, according to the criminal complaint. When Ames Police encountered Jackson, he allegedly had “bloodshot watery eyes, slow lethargic movements and smelled strongly of ingested alcohol.”
The criminal complaint also stated that Jackson failed three field sobriety tests. Additionally, his initial BAC test was over the legal limit at the scene and was 0.102% when tested at the Ames Police Department.
After the test, he was transported to the Story County Jail without incident and posted a $1,000 bail the same day.
The incident took place in the early morning hours following the Cyclones’ 45-19 loss to Arizona State in the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, Texas. In that game, Jackson was the fourth-leading rusher with 15 yards on four carries and had a 22-yard kick return.
Jackson is a transfer student who played his first two collegiate seasons at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, before transferring to Eastern Michigan for two seasons.
He announced his transfer to Iowa State in January and earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the spring semester. Jackson was the Cyclone Club Athlete of the Week after his two-touchdown, 107-yard performance in Iowa State’s 43-21 win over Baylor.
This season, Jackson has played in all 13 games for the Cyclones and is the team’s third-leading rusher with 388 yards. He is also the leading kickoff returner with 128 yards on six attempts.
An initial appearance for Jackson’s case is scheduled for Dec. 19.
