Brock Purdy
Purdy had one of the most impressive games of his career in the San Francisco 49ers’ 38-13 win over the Chicago Bears. The win brought the 49ers up to a 6-7 record.
With two touchdown passes, both to wide receiver Jauan Jennings, 325 yards on 20-of-25 passing and no interceptions, Purdy earned a 145.4 passer rating
Purdy had his sixth career game with a passer rating of 140 or higher, surpassing former Chicago Bears quarterback Ed Brown (five games from 1954-56) and former Washington quarterback Frank Filchock (five games from 1939-40) for the most games with a passer rating of 140 or higher by a quarterback in his first three seasons in NFL history.
On the season, Purdy has now surpassed 3,000 passing yards and has 15 touchdown passes.
David Montgomery
Montgomery has had a nose for the endzone all season and found it again in the Detroit Lions’ 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.
On 14 carries, Montgomery ran for 51 yards to lead Detroit in rushing, just above Jahmyr Gibbs, who had 43 yards on 15 carries.
Though the rushing numbers were slim, Montgomery caught five passes for 33 yards to add to his yardage. He now has 771 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns on the season as the Lions continue to lead the NFC with a 12-1 record.
Allen Lazard
Once again, the New York Cyclones [Jets] lost, dropping their record to 3-10, which eliminates them from playoff contention. This time, New York lost in overtime to the Miami Dolphins 32-26.
Lazard made his return from the injured reserve list this week and caught his lone target for 18 yards. Though it wasn’t a huge impact, the fact that Lazard is back on the field is a good sign.
The catch puts Lazard’s season yardage up to 430.
Lazard’s teammate, and fellow former Cyclone, Breece Hall, did not play against Miami.
Jacob Hummel
Though he didn’t record a tackle, Hummel had arguably the biggest play in the Los Angeles Rams’ 44-42 win over the Buffalo Bills.
The linebacker blocked a Buffalo punt early in the second quarter, which was subsequently returned for a Los Angeles touchdown that put the Rams up by 10.
This was the first time since 2018 that the Rams returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. Had the punt not been blocked and returned for the score, Los Angeles might have ended up losing the game.
The Rams are now 7-6 and are one game outside of the playoffs. First place in the NFC West is the Seattle Seahawks (8-5), and the Washington Commanders (8-5) currently hold the final Wild Card spot.
