The Iowa State swimming and diving team is set to face Iowa in the Cy-Hawk rivalry meet Friday in Iowa City.
Iowa State and Iowa have a 2-1 record so far this season, and both schools’ most recent performances were in the Hawkeye Invitational. The Cyclones came in eighth and Iowa finished fifth.
Iowa State had 14 finalists at the Hawkeye Invitational with strong performances from the upperclassmen.
Senior Madi Dohrn placed 15th overall in the 200 backstroke, and senior Carley Caughron finished 31st out of over 70 swimmers in the 100 free.
All five divers placed in the top 24, led by juniors Ally Blumenfeld and Kate Mitchell, placing 12th and 13th, respectively.
In their head-to-head matchups, the Hawkeyes lead with 28 wins all-time, compared to the Cyclones’ 12. The most recent victory came last year, which snapped a two-year win streak by Iowa State.
Iowa is a formidable team, with wins over Northern Iowa and Nebraska. The Hawkeyes beat them both by margins of 40-plus points. The Hawkeyes’ lone loss came from No. 23 Minnesota.
With Iowa State and Iowa sitting at 2-1, this meet will be crucial for both teams. Watch for the diving team in the Friday meet, as a strong showing could be the deciding factor for an Iowa State win.
