Come support local Midwestern artists at a fun, free music event known as KURE Fest at Iowa State. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday evening. The festival will take place in the Maintenance Shop in the Memorial Union.
KURE is a radio station run and managed by students who work hard to deliver music and updates every single day via the radio station 88.5 FM.
KURE describes themselves on their website as “Iowa State University’s student-produced and managed radio station. KURE strives to provide the ISU and Ames community with alternative radio programs and events which inform, entertain, and engage.”
At KURE Fest, the students and faculty at Iowa State, as well as the public, will have a chance to listen to some music live and in person. Three different bands play each of the two nights. Slater, Woem and Colin Bracewell are the lineup for the first night, and the second night’s lineup is Quarters of Change, Soulcage and Allegra Hernandez.
Slater headlines the Friday show and is best known as an alt-pop/hip-hop artist. Woem is an alternative rock band that likes to perform at the Angry Irishman in Ames and performed their first show back in 2023 (around the same time as Soulcage). Colin Bracewell is a student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and is a Canadian-American artist. He is currently working on two majors, one in vocal performance and another in marketing.
Quarters of Change is a four-piece alternative rock band and is the only band in the lineup that started on the East Coast. They formed the band back in 2017 when the members were in high school. Soulcage is a hard rock band that was created two years ago and is based out of Des Moines. The band was formed in 2023 with the goal of bringing classic rock to the stage. Allegra Hernandez is an artist and guitarist located out of Des Moines. Their music is based around the genre of rock and includes a lot of emotional lyrics and guitar layering.
Information about the bands and where to find their social media accounts can be found on the Student Union Board Facebook page.
