Following the death of former Iowa State golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena, the Iowa State women’s golf team has dropped out of competition at the East & West Match Play in Michigan.

Barquin Arozamena was found dead Monday at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames.

“We are all devastated,” said women’s golf coach Christie Martens in a press release. “Celia was a beautiful person who was loved by all her teammates and friends. She loved Iowa State and was an outstanding representative for our school. We will never forget her competitive drive to be the best and her passion for life.”

Iowa State won its first round match Monday by beating Oregon State 3-2. The Cyclones were scheduled to play UC-Davis in the final round Tuesday before the team chose to withdraw.
