The Cyclones fell 24-3 Sunday morning to No. 3 Florida in five innings. The high-powered Florida batters quickly overwhelmed Iowa State in the top of the first inning, and would not let up for the rest of the game.
The game was a single-game run record for the Gators, who won the tournament with a perfect 5-0 weekend. Iowa State finished 2-2 on the weekend with wins over New Mexico State and Portland State.
Sophomore Lauren Schurman started in the circle for the Cyclones and was credited with the loss. It was a tough defensive showing for the Cyclones, giving up 24 runs on 22 hits.
Freshman Jessie Clemons generated all of the scoring for Iowa State with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first. While the home run gave the Cyclones life, they were quickly overwhelmed.
The Gators poured on nine runs in the top of the first inning following a flurry of hits. The bats would stay hot in the second and third innings, putting up seven and six runs, respectively.
Down 22-3 after the third inning, the Cyclones were unable to recover and following a pair of quick runs for Florida in the fourth and fifth innings, the game ended via mercy rule.
With the loss, the Cyclones move to 6-7 on the season. They will look to rebound from the loss next weekend in the Mardi Gras Mambo.
