Schedule release: Iowa State Women’s Golf
August 7, 2018
Continuing a busy summer for Iowa State’s golf program, the Women’s golf team released their schedule for the 2018-19 season yesterday.
The Cyclones’ season begins with the Dick McGuire Invitational, a two-day tournament on Sept. 10-11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Cyclones won the tournament in the 2012-13 season and finished tied for seventh place in last year’s Invitational.
Last season, the women’s team won the East and West Match Play in Madison, Wisconsin. This season they will look to defend their title in Ann Arbor, Michigan from Sept. 16-18.
At the beginning of October, the Cyclones will travel to Wilmette, Illinois to compete in the Windy City Collegiate Classic. In last season’s classic, the Cyclones finished eighth overall.
Rounding out the 2018 part of the 2018-19 season for the team is the Stanford Intercollegiate from Oct. 19-21 in Palo Alto, California. The Cyclones finished ninth in the tourney last season.
The 2019 part of the 2018-19 begins with a dual match in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday, Jan. 27. The Cyclones opponent is currently unknown, but the last time the women’s golf team had a dual match in West Palm Beach was in the 2012-13 season, where the Cyclones won a dual against Northwestern.
The following week, the Women’s golf team will compete in another tournament in Florida, this one being the Central Florida Challenge in Orlando, Florida from Feb. 3-5. The women’s golf team finished sixth in last season’s challenge.
Following their tournaments in Florida, the Cyclones will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to compete in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic from Feb. 10-12.
The Cyclones have done well in this classic, finishing in the top four in three of the last four seasons. Last season the Cyclones finished second and will look to take home the title this season.
A month after the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, the Cyclones will compete in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational on March 11-12.
Last season’s tournament featured four top-25 teams, including the 2018 NCAA Team Champions: the Arizona Wildcats.
Another tournament in Tucson that the Cyclones will compete in is the Mountain View Collegiate from March 22-24.
In the last four appearances in the Mountain View Collegiate, Iowa State has placed in the top four. The team won the event back in the 2010-11 season.
Two weeks later, the women’s golf team will head to Napa, California to compete in the Silverado Showdown from April 7-9. The last time the Cyclones competed in the showdown was two seasons ago, where the team finished seventh.
Five days after the Silverado Showdown, is the Big 12 Championship in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma from April 14-16. The Cyclones finished fourth in last season’s Big 12 Championship.
Concluding the 2018-2019 Iowa State Women’s golf schedule is the NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championships.
After struggling in last season’s regional, the Cyclones look to bounce back and make the 2019 NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
