Schedule release: Iowa State Men’s Golf

With a little less than two weeks before classes begin, the Iowa State men’s golf team is preparing for the season to begin. The men’s golf schedule for the 2018-2019 season was released this week.

In September, the Cyclones will travel to Madison, Wisconsin for the Badger Invitational on Sept. 9 through Sept. 11 and to Lake Forest, Illinois for the Windon Memorial on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24.

The Cyclones finished tied for sixth place in the Badger Invitational and fourth in the Windon Memorial last season.

Rounding out the 2018 portion of the season is the Fighting Irish Classic and the Big 12 Conference Match Play tournament.

South Bend, Indiana will host the Fighting Irish Classic on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. Later that week the Cyclones will travel to Houston, Texas for the Big 12 Conference Match Play tournament.

Kicking off the 2019 portion of the season, the Cyclones will travel to Tucson, Arizona on Jan. 28 for the Arizona Intercollegiate. The Arizona Intercollegiate is a two-day tournament, which the Cyclones finished 14th in last season.

From Feb. 18 to Feb. 20, the Cyclones will travel to La Quinta, California in the Prestige at PGA West. The Prestige at PGA West is a highly competitive tournament that previous NCAA tournament champions have participated in.

According to prestigepgawest.org, PGA golfers Gary Woodland, the second-ranked golfer in the world Jon Rahm and 2017 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Xander Schauffele have all participated in the tournament. The Cyclones finished tied for 10th last season’s event.

The month of March will be a busy one for the men’s golf team, as it will participate in three tournaments, two in South Carolina and one in Arizona.

Last season, the Cyclones won the Colleton River Collegiate and will look to repeat as champions this season. The Colleton River Collegiate will take place on March 4 and March 5 in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Two weeks later, the Cyclones will travel back to Tucson, Arizona for the National Invitational Tournament. The Cyclones placed fifth in the tournament last season.

Rounding out the month of March for the Men’s golf team is the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, South Carolina. The Cyclones finished fourth in last season’s tournament.

The final tournament before the Big 12 tournament is the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on April 12-13 in Tempe, Arizona. The Cyclones participated in the 2017 Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational and placed sixth.

West Virginia University will play as host to the 2019 Big 12 Championship at the Greenbriar from April 26-28. The Cyclones finished fourth the 2018 Big 12 Championship.

Concluding the 2018-2019 Iowa State Men’s Golf season is the NCAA Regionals on May 13-15 and the NCAA Championships from May 24-29.

The location for the Cyclones regional has not been announced. The NCAA Championships will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Last season, the Cyclones finished 3rd in their regional and tied for 19th in the NCAA Championships.
