Iowa State University’s Student Union Board (SUB) will host its 17th annual Global Gala at 6 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Union’s Durham Great Hall.
This free event highlights Iowa State’s diverse cultures with student performances, hands-on activities and a variety of refreshments.
It also offers a chance for attendees to engage with different traditions, learn about various backgrounds, and connect with students from around the world.
The Global Gala started in 2006 as a way to celebrate Iowa State’s growing international community and promote cultural heritage. Over the years, it has featured performances from a variety of student organizations, showcasing traditional and modern expressions of culture.
The event has continued annually, except for 2020 and 2021 when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s event will feature performances from student-led cultural groups representing different regions of the world. Expect energetic dances, cultural music, and traditional attire that reflect the uniqueness of each culture. Guests can also take part in arts and crafts and enjoy light refreshments.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and performances start at 7 p.m. Attendees can experience different cultures through artistic expression.
The Global Gala is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the wider community, inviting everyone to take part in this annual tradition and celebrate the many cultures that shape Iowa State.
Whether attending for the first time or returning, guests will find something new to enjoy each year.
