AMES – After adding Purdue Fort Wayne transfer Eric Mulder on Thursday, the Cyclones returned to the transfer portal on Friday to land a promising guard out of Eastern Washington.
Iowa State’s latest addition is 6-foot 5-inch guard Mason Williams. Williams comes to Iowa State as a sophomore after playing the first two seasons of his career at Eastern Washington, with two years of eligibility remaining.
In Williams’ freshman season at Eastern Washington, he played in 17 games and averaged 3.8 points and 1.2 assists in just 9.8 minutes per game.
This season, Williams’ production dramatically increased.
The sophomore played in 27 games and averaged 13.9 points, while shooting 42.7% from the field, 24.5% from 3-point range and 83.7% from the free-throw line. He also averaged 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while playing 28 minutes per game.
Williams’ career-high came in a 78-70 loss to Idaho State. Williams scored 35 points after shooting 12-for-15 from the field, 3-for-4 from 3-point range and 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.
The Seattle, Washington, native ranked second on Eastern Washington in points and assists per game and was third in steals per game.
With the departure of its top two scorers, senior guards Curtis Jones and Keshon Gilbert, Iowa State will look to Williams to step up and fill the scoring void in the backcourt.
