With rumors circulating that Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell could be a candidate for the Ohio State job should Urban Meyer part ways with the school, Campbell chose to address the situation at the beginning of his Friday press conference.

Beginning by saying that he has the upmost respect for the media, Campbell continued his statement by stating that, “I am never going to talk about what’s going on at other schools or other universities.”

“My sole purpose in my job is to focus on number one, Our players, number two, our coaching staff, number three, our fanbase and number four, the future of our program,” Campbell said.

Campbell, an Ohio native with extensive ties to the state, has had his name bandied about by many as a logical replacement to Meyer.

Meyer is currently on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the university into allegations that he knew of prior incidents of domestic violence involving recently fired wide receivers coach Zach Smith and kept him on staff anyway.

Campbell continued his statement, stating that he his sole mission was “to be here and do something.”

“I’ll only answer questions that pertain to our football program, Iowa State football and our future,” Campbell said to close his statement on the matter.
