Ray Lima named to the Nagurski and Outland Trophy watch lists
July 24, 2018
With senior defensive tackle Ray Lima being named to the Nagurski and Outland Trophy watch lists, the Cyclones now have their sixth appearance on a watch list.
Last season, Lima was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and received the Dury Moss Outstanding Newcomer Award. Lima was often double-teamed by opposing offenses last season, which allowed his teammates the opportunity to make plays.
The Nagurski Trophy recognizes the best defender in college football. The trophy is named after Bronko Nagurski who played college football at Minnesota and played professionally for the Chicago Bears.
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best interior defensive lineman in college football. The trophy is John H. Outland who is a college football Hall of Famer who played college football at William Penn, Kansas and Pennsylvania University.
Both trophies are presented by the Football Writers Association of America.
Lima now joins fellow Cyclones, tight end Chase Allen, running back David Montgomery, quarterback Kyle Kempt and cornerback Brian Peavy on award watch lists.
