The first round of the YMCA Cap City playoffs had everything: a blowout, strong performances and a back-and-forth nightcap.

Game one: Hannah Homes 139, Hinterland 107

Sophomore Terrence Lewis returned after missing the final regular-season game for Hannah Homes and put up 33 points on 19 shots.

Hannah Homes had seven players score 13 points or more, and that ability to spread the wealth led to a blowout win and a trip to the semifinals.

Sophomore guard Eric Steyer had 13 points on 3-for-6 shooting from 3-point range, but it wasn’t enough to keep Hinterland close.

Game two: Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic 114, MRG International 101

Talen Horton-Tucker put on a show.

With 38 points, nine rebounds and flashy moves in bunches, Horton-Tucker captivated the crowd at Grand View University.

However, it wasn’t enough for MRG International to move on to the next round. Drake junior college transfer Tremell Murphy matched Horton-Tucker shot for shot, scoring 42 points of his own and adding 12 rebounds.

The Semifinal matchups on Sunday will pit Hannah Homes against undefeated Lions Club of Iowa, and Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic will take on George Conditt IV and Sparta Waste Services.
