It’s been a big summer for Iowa State golfers, with former Iowa State golfers competing in the U.S. Women’s Open and the U.S. Senior Open.

Now, the U.S. Amateur can be added to the list of accomplishments.

Iowa State sophomore golfer Frank Lindwall posted rounds of 73 and 68 at the local qualifier in Cedar Falls tying for first and qualifying for the 2018 U.S. Amateur.

The U.S. Amateur is a match play tournament that consists of two days of stroke play, with the leading 64 competitors then playing a knockout competition to decide the champion. All knockout matches are over 18 holes except for the final, which consists of 36 holes, separated into morning and afternoon 18-hole rounds.

The winner of the Amateur gains automatic qualification for the 2019 US Open and 2019 British Open if they remain an amateur.

The 2018 U.S. Amateur takes at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California from August 13-19, with coverage on FOX and Fox Sports 1.
