After debuting as a amateur yesterday in her first LPGA event and Women’s U.S. Open, former Cyclone golfer and Big 12 champion Celia Barquin Arozamena played in the second round of the U.S. Women’s Open today at Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.

Arozamena teed off on the tenth hole at 12:31 p.m., and had a rough start to the day. She shot 5-over-par on the first five holes and parred holes 15 and 16 before the rain delay started.

The weather was expected to be an issue every day of the tournament, according to al.com. Early in the afternoon, thunderstorms rolled through the course that caused play to be suspended.

At first, the golfers and their caddies were ushered in vans to wait out the storm because many USGA officials believed the delay would be short.

However, that wasn’t the case, so the golfers and caddies were moved to the clubhouse to wait out the storm. Shortly before 3:20 p.m., the USGA issued a “all-weather clear” alert.

However, a few minutes later more lightning was spotted, and the delay continued.

The golfers resumed play at 6:15 p.m.

Arozamena parred the 17th and 18th holes to finish her first nine holes with a 41.

Arozamena started off her second nine well, with a birdie on the 1st hole and a par on the 2nd hole before play was suspended again.

Arozamena currently sits at tied for 116th with a score of 8-over-par through 11 holes. The top 60 and ties advance to the final two rounds. The current cut line  is 4-over-par.

The second round will resume at 6:45 a.m. Saturday.
