Iowa State’s men’s basketball team has some injury news break Thursday evening.

Iowa State incoming freshman Zion Griffin will undergo surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, the Cyclones announced. Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune had the news first

Griffin will miss Cap City League action due to the surgery, which will take 3-to-5 weeks to recover from. Griffin suffered the injury while at home in Chicago during a pickup basketball game.

Griffin had been drafted to MRG International alongside fellow incoming freshman Talen Horton-Tucker.

He is expected to be ready to go for the Cyclones’ season opener against Missouri on Nov. 9.
