While Hannah Homes built its Cap City League team around the back court, the Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic operated on the other end of the spectrum.

During the Iowa State round, Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic selected Zoran Talley and Solomon Young. Talley, the fifth pick of the Iowa State round, provides a 6-foot-7, 190-pound frame to the table.

In his first season at Iowa State after transferring from Old Dominion, Talley contributed 7.5 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game.

Beyond the numbers, Talley brings a solid ball-handling presence. Against West Virginia, Talley was instrumental in breaking through the Mountaineers pressure.

With the size paired with his ball-handling skills, Talley could make a push towards the Cap City League MVP.

Along with Talley, Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic acquired consistency with Young. Young has competed for the Cyclones in his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Young hasn’t played a huge role in the scoring department, partially because of Iowa State’s multiple scoring options in the past few seasons.

What Young has done in Ames is know his role. Last season, Young chipped in 7.2 points per game, and the 6-foot-8 Young averaged 5.9 rebounds per game as well.

With Talley’s versatilty and ball-handling skills, Young will be important down low to clean up Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic’s misses.

The Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic’s front court was mostly solidified in the Iowa State round, but it found its guards in the Drake and open rounds.

With the No. 11 pick in the Drake round, Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic selected guard Connor Gholson. Gholson, a walk-on from Newton, poured in 1,395 career points at Newton.

Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic’s first pick in the Drake round was spent on Tremell Murphy. Murphy — a 6-foot-6 forward who is transferring from Florida Southwestern State College — fits a similar mold as Talley.

Murphy brings size and versatility to Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic’s roster. At Florida Southwestern State, Murphy averaged 16.7 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game.

A trio of notable open round picks are Traveon Buchanan, Quinton Curry and Luke TerHark.

In 2016, TerHark was named the Small College MVP. Last season, the Wayne State guard earned the the 3-point contest championship. In a lengthy team, TerHark brings an outside presence.

Curry is another big body to plug into the Waukee-Clive Vet Clinic rotation. The 6-foot-6 forward won the high school MVP for Cap City League last summer.

DMACC’s Buchanan has history with MRG International’s Talen Horton-Tucker. Buchanan played his sophomore season of high school at Horton-Tucker’s high school: Simeon.

After his sophomore year, Buchanan enrolled at United Township. Buchanan and Horton-Tucker faced each other in Buchanan’s junior season.

Simeon won 66-36. Horton-Tucker scored 13 points, and Buchanan led United Township with 17 points.

The duo will get the chance to compete again this summer in Des Moines.
