A 100 percent chance of Cyclones.

The Iowa State men’s track and field heads down to Iowa City on Thursday to compete in the Musco Twilight event and to beat the incoming weather for the weekend. The meet will be in the hands of jump and throw coach Fletcher Brooks as the Cyclones will only be sending javelin, hammer and shot-put throwers to the meet.

“He has such great knowledge that it’s hard not to want to be coached by him,” said senior hammer thrower Brett Peters about Brooks. “The reason I came here is because coach Brooks provided so much insight on the hammer.”

Peters has been a steady cog on the Cyclones roster for a couple years now, and this will be his last season as a collegiate athlete.

Peters has already been able to set his personal records at both the hammer and the weight throw this season.

With all the success that he’s enjoyed this year, he seems to be pretty satisfied with how things have turned out so far.

“I think I’m ready for it, but at the same time, I’m [going to] miss it,” Peters said about his last season and his track career.

Peters will be bringing his veteran leadership to Iowa City, while sophomore shot-putter Zach Timm will be showcasing his youth.

“It’s exciting… but it’s also bittersweet,” Timm said about the season winding down.

Timm has been the only competitor this season in the shot put for the Cyclones, but he doesn’t feel the pressure of that. Timm talked about how his coach is always helping him out and how he also practices with the women’s team.

Since he is the only one on the team that competes in the shot-put, there seems to be a lot of trust in him to perform well.

Timm also talked about coach Brooks and what his coaching has meant to him.

“He always tries to build people up, he never really tries to tear people down,” Timm said about Brooks who‘s been mentioned positively by many team members already this year.

With Brooks contributing so much to the team, the Cyclones seem to be in good hands this weekend despite the small list of players.

Even with the low number of players, it figures to be a change of pace because they will be competing in the middle of the week instead of on a weekend due to the incoming weather.

“It kind of changes the way we do things week by week,” Peters said about the short week.

The weather has been colder in the month of April than in years past in Iowa and it seems that they are taking advantage of the brief warmth.

For Thursday however, Peters is feeling confident.

“I don’t feel pressure right now,” Peters said.
