Iowa State falls to TCU 4-0

Senior Natalie Phippen played for Iowa State Tennis on April 23. Phippen has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and an ISU Scholar-Athlete. She fell 0-6, 0-4 during her match against Katarina Stresnakova of OSU.

The Iowa State tennis team was defeated by the TCU Horned Frogs 4-0 this afternoon in Urbandale, Iowa.

In singles play, not one Cyclone was able to win a match against the Horned Frogs. No. 5 Annabella Bonadonna faced Alexis Pereira of TCU. Bonadonna won the first set of her match going into a tiebreak, 7-5 but the second set went unfinished.

At the No. 6 position, Karen Alvarez came climbing back against Stevie Kennedy. Alvarez lost the first set 6-3 but was only down two points in the second set, when the match went unfinished.

In doubles play, TCU came out hot and ready to play. TCU took the doubles point early. No. 2 duos Repina/Timakova were defeated by Pereira/Bashota (TCU) 6-2. At the No. 3 doubles position Alvarez/Bonadonna had a 3-2 lead but Cveticanin/Zenovka came back in the final four games winning 6-3.

Singles:

No.1 : Maty Cancini was defeated by Aleksa Cveticanin (TCU) 6-2, 6-4.

No. 2: Ekaterina Repina was defeated by Donika Bashota (TCU) 6-0, 6-5 (unfinished).

No. 3: Regina Espindola was defeated by Marie Norris (TCU) 6-2, 6-3.

No. 4: Margarita Timakova was defeated by Aleksandra Zenovka (TCU) 6-1, 6-4.

No. 5: Annabella Bonadonna faced off against Alexis Pereira (TCU) 7-5, 2-2 (unfinished).

No. 6: Karen Alvarez faced Stevie Kennedy (TCU) their match also went unfinished but Kennedy had the advantage leading 6-3, 2-4.

Doubles:

No. 1: Cancini/Espindola faced off against duo Norris/Kennedy (TCU) 5-3 (unfinished).

No. 2: Repina/Timakova were defeated by Pereira/Bashota (TCU) 6-2.

No.3 : Bonadonna/Alvarez were defeated by Cveticanin/Zenovka (TCU) 6-3.

Iowa State will conclude their regular season Sunday against No. 11 Texas Tech. The match will be located at Forker Tennis courts in Ames and will begin at 10 a.m.
