Iowa State beats Virginia Tech 2-0

The Iowa State softball team defeated Virginia Tech by a final score of 2-0 Friday afternoon.

The Cyclones took the mound with senior right handed pitcher Brianna Weilbacher. She pitched a complete game shutout against Virginia Tech.

Weilbacher gave up five hits and no runs against the Hokies. She had a season-high 10 strikeouts for the day.  

In the top of the second inning, junior infielder Sydney Stites hit a solo home run to right center field to give the Cyclones the early 1-0 lead. It was Stites’ first home run of the season and she went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The score would stay 1-0 until the very last inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, junior center fielder Taylor Nearad hit an RBI single up the middle to score junior designated player Jackie Chairez, making the score 2-0 Iowa State.

Iowa State beat Virginia Tech 2-0 on day one of the Courtyard Marriott Osprey Classic. The Cyclones will face the Hokies again on Sunday.
