February 1, 2018
Today was Alissa Stoehr’s first day as the interim director of the Margaret Sloss Women’s Center.
Stoehr has been a lecturer in women’s and gender studies and sociology since 2015.
Stoehr earned a Bachelor of Science in women’s studies and a Bachelor of Liberal Studies. She has also received a Master of Science in interdisciplinary graduate degree specializing in women’s studies, sociology, and human development and family studies and a doctorate in higher education, all from Iowa State.
Stoehr also brought the “Vagina Monologues” to Iowa State in 2001.
Stoehr has previously served as the program coordinator for H SCI 150: Dialogues on Diversity, a copy editor for the Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis for the School of Education from 2011 to 2015 and the Institutional Review Board administrator at Iowa State from 2009 to 2011.
Reflecting on her first day, Stoehr said her first day was engaging and she enjoyed meeting new people, getting involved in her first staff meeting and re-familiarizing herself with what the Women’s Center offers to the Iowa State community.
Other staff in the Margaret Sloss Women’s Center are looking forward to her time there.
“I am excited for her to start and I look forward to see the growth that she has in her interim time here and the relationships she’ll build across campus,” Som Mongtin, the assistant director of the Sloss House said.
Looking ahead, Stoehr said she is most excited for the future and “how I can help the Women’s Center continue their strong history of programming, advocacy and education for the Cyclone community.”
