The Iowa State women’s basketball team got the jolt of confidence it so desperately needed Saturday night in Lubbock, Texas.

The Cyclones led the whole way and coasted to a 66-54 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Junior guard Bridget Carleton got the Cyclones off to a hot start, scoring Iowa State’s first seven points and leading the Cyclones to a 22-11 lead at the end of the first.

Iowa State grew its lead in the second thanks to good contributions from senior guard Emily Durr and freshman guard Madison Wise. The two combined to score 32 points on the night, providing Carleton with ample scoring help. Iowa State led 42-24 at halftime.

The third quarter was split 13-13, as the Cyclones began to slow down on the offensive end of the floor. Carleton had another low-percentage shooting night, shooting 4-of-17 from the floor. The Cyclones as a team shot only 33.8 percent for the game.

In the fourth quarter, Texas Tech made a small comeback, getting the deficit as low as 11 but never really threatening to steal the game. The Cyclones closed the game out at the free-throw line and moved to 2-4 in the Big 12 conference.

The Cyclones next play is against No. 6 Baylor at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in Hilton Coliseum.
