The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) will host their “All We Do Is Step, Hop, Stroll, and Salute?! What is a Black and Multicultural Greek?” event from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Memorial Union Sun Room.

The MGC consists of nine sororities and fraternities:

  • Delta Lambda Phi
  • Delta Phi Lambda
  • Gamma Rho Lambda
  • Lambda Theta Alpha
  • Lambda Theta Nu
  • Lambda Theta Phi
  • Pi Alpha Phi
  • Sigma Lambda Beta
  • Sigma Lambda Gamma

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) consists of eight fraternities and sororities.

  • Alpha Kappa Alpha
  • Alpha Phi Alpha
  • Delta Sigma Theta
  • Kappa Alpha Psi
  • Omega Psi Phi
  • Phi Beta Sigma
  • Sigma Gamma Rho
  • Zeta Phi Beta

While the fraternities and sororities in the MGC and NPHC have rich histories and have made significant societal contributions over the last century, the greater community still remains unaware of their impact on society in political, economic, cultural and educational facets.

The event will aim to address and break down stereotypes surrounding black and multicultural greek fraternities and sororities, and educate the community on the impact they make on those around them, according to the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Engagement website. One such stereotype is that black and multicultural greek organizations only focus on stepping and social events. The event will illustrate the impact these organizations make through audience participation, Black and Latinx history and demonstrations of African traditions.

The event will also highlight the relationships between the MGC and NPHC organizations and how they work together to make a positive impact on their community.
