Craziness was the name of the game on Thursday night in Hilton.

The visiting Kansas Jayhawks were suffocating on defense and forced Iowa State into some difficult shots, but the Cyclones won 71-69 in overtime.

The Cyclones feasted at the free throw line for much of the first quarter, hitting 7-of-9 from the stripe and holding on to an 18-17 lead after one. Bridget Carleton hit two threes in the first and inched ever closer to 1,000 career points.

Both teams struggled in the second quarter, but Kansas used a 10-2 run to close out the first half with a 31-29 lead. Iowa State shot 4-for-15 in the second quarter and 30.8 percent for the half. Junior center Bride Kennedy-Hopoate led the Cyclones with 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting.

Carleton hit 1,000 career points in the third quarter, becoming the 30th player in Iowa State history to do so. She finished with 30 points on the night. However, the Cyclones trailed 50-49 after three quarters.

Iowa State kept fighting back after multiple mini-runs from Kansas, and the Cyclones found themselves down 61-60 with 25.3 seconds to play. On a risky yet perfectly executed inbounds play, senior guard Emily Durr found Carleton on a backdoor cut for the go-ahead layup. But after two Carleton free throws, Kansas guard Kylee Kopatich hit a three to send the game to overtime.

Carleton scored all seven points for Iowa State in the overtime period and the Cyclones held on for the victory despite not scoring in the final 2:35.
