Limelight’s most disappointing movies of 2017

Alien Covenant

After years of awful Alien movies, such as “Alien: Resurrection,” and “Alien vs Predator,” I was excited to finally see another solid entry into the series. Unfortunately Ridley Scott disappointed me once again. Similar to “Prometheus,” “Alien Covenant” is plagued by inexplicably stupid space explorer syndrome, as we watch astronauts remove any sort of protective gear on a new planet, or trust the obviously insane and evil robot. Ridley Scott also made the decision to turn the terrifying Xenomorph into little more than a frankenstein created by a crazy, evil robot, who was created by humanity, completely removing any sort of mystery that made it one of the best monsters in horror in the first place. That said, without “Alien Covenant,” I never would have gotten the slightly homoerotic scene of Michael Fassbender robot teaching other Michael Fassbender robot to play the flute. “I’ll do the fingering.”

Emoji Movie

Emoji Movie was a masterpiece. Best movie of the year. My only complaint is that Sir Patrick Stewart didn’t get enough screen time as the poop emoji. 2/10 stars.
