Blue Owl Bar fined for alcohol compliance violation

The Ames Police fined Blue Owl Bar $735 for selling alcohol to a minor Friday.
The Ames Police Department’s Safe Neighborhoods Team conducted alcohol compliance checks on 30 Ames businesses. During the check, of the 30 businesses checked, Blue Owl was the only one that sold alcohol to an underage person.
The employee was cited for selling alcohol to an underage person under Iowa Code Section 123.49 (2)(H) which states:
“A person or club holding a liquor control license or retail wine or beer permit under this chapter, and the person’s or club’s agents or employees, shall not do any of the following: sell, give, or otherwise supply any alcoholic beverage, wine, or beer to any person, knowing or failing to exercise reasonable care to ascertain whether the person is under legal age, or permit any person, knowing or failing to exercise reasonable care to ascertain whether the person is under legal age, to consume any alcoholic beverage, wine, or beer.”
The following businesses were also checked but did not sell alcohol to any minors:
- Kum and Go at 4506 Lincoln Way, Casey’s at 3612 Stange Rd,
- Swift Stop on 3218 Orion St., Swift Stop at 705 24th St.
- Casey’s at 428 Lincoln Way,
- Kum and Go at 111 S. Duff Ave.,
- Kwik Stop 125 6th St., South Gate Express,
- Casey’s at 3020 S. Duff Ave., West Town Pub, Mucky Duck,
- Mother’s Pub

- Outlaws
- Cy’s Roost
- Mickey’s Irish Pub,
- Café Beaudelaire
- One Night Stand
- Sips and Paddy’s
