Iowa State wrestling Harold Nichols Cyclone Open midday results

Colston DiBlasi wrestles Minnesota’s No. 8 Jake Short on Feb. 19, 2017 in Hilton Coliseum. Short comes up with a 9-1 major decision over DiBlasi. Minnesota defeated Iowa State 40-7 in their final meet at home this season.

Iowa State wrestling began competition today at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open.

Amongst the teams that are competing include Northern Iowa, Grandview and Northern Illinois.

The following are a midday update:

At heavyweight, Marcus Harrington pinned Matt Kent from Grandview with 1:56 left in the first period.

Dane Pestano at 184 pounds easily defeated and earned a major decision against Casey Crawford from Grandview 15-6.

Mac Southard earned a 7-2 decision against Carter Rohweder from UNI at the 174-pound weight class.

At 141 pounds, Kristian Vasquez defeated Nick Peglow from Truman State in a 9-3 decision.

Colin Strickland was pinned by Brody Beck from UNI with 5:56 at the 174-pound class.

At 165 pounds, Taylan Entriken won a 4-1 decision to Patrick Schoenfelder from UNI.

Skyler St. John, also at 165 pounds, lost in a 9-4 decision to Kenny Moore from Northern Illinois.

DeMichael Franklin at 174 pounds, pinned Malik Beverly from Truman State 2:14.

Luke Entzel lost a 3-2 decision to Jacob Meehan from UNI at the 174-pound weight class.

Danny Bush, at 184 pounds, had a tech fall against Cullin Brendeland from the Iowa State Wrestling Club.

At 174 pounds, Tucker Morrison won a 5-1 decision to Xavier Miller who was wrestling unattached.

Wrestling at heavyweight, Gannon Gremmel pinned Gary Whittaker from Grandview.

Colston Diblasi lost a 9-4 decision to Erik Travers from SIUE at the 157-pound weight class.

Alec McDowell defeated Shane Gallagher from Truman State at 3:30 into the match at 184 pounds.

At 197 pounds, Kaden Sauer had a tech fall against Zac Stork from Grandview 17-2.

Markus Simmons lost in a major decision to Cameron Valdiviez from Truman State at 133 pounds. 

Jakob Allison, at 125 pounds, lost to a fall 24 seconds into his match against Bryce West from Northern Illinois.

Harrington won versus Caleb Gossett from Northern Illinois. The match extended into three extra overtime periods before Harrington had a takedown.

At 157 pounds, Brady Jennings lost 6-4 to Colin Holler who was wrestling unattached from Northern Illinois in a sudden victory.

Tanner Lundgren defeated Beau Bush from the Bayou Boys in a 9-5 decision in a 149-pound match.

Joe Teague, at 197 pounds, lost 4-2 in a sudden victory against Max Ihry from Northern Illinois.

Wrestling in a 174-pound match, Mac Southard lost a 10-2 major decision to Brit Wilson from Northern Illinois.

Nick Nolting won 4-2 in a sudden victory against Jake McKiernan from SIUE in a heavyweight match.

197-pounder Samuel Colbray won a 9-7 decision against Izaak Shedenhelm from UNI.

Ian Parker won a 13-5 major decision versus Allan Hart at 133 pounds.

Marcus Coleman, at 174 pounds, won a 4-1 decision against Brody Beck of UNI.

Franklin defeated fellow teammate Tucker Morrison in a 7-1 decision.

Pestano lost a 6-4 decision to Bryce Gorman of Northern Illinois.

Gremmel defeated Thomas Helton with a 2-0 decision.

149-pounder Gavin DeWitt had a 14-3 major decision against Cameron Kelly from SIURTC.

Vasquez defeated Derek Holschlag of UNI in a 16-4 major decision

Jennings tech falls Wyatt Forsyth from the Iowa State Wrestling Club 17-0.

Bush was defeated by Wyatt Koelling in a 4-1 decision.

St. John received a victory after Ryan Niven of Grandview medically forfeited at the very beginning of the match.

McDowell earned a 7-1 decision against Tyler Roling of the Iowa State Wrestling Club.

Entzel beat Brody Beck from UNI in a 6-4 decision.

Allison pinned Matthew Malavsky from SIURTC in 1:19

Sauer falls Will Tindal of Truman State 4:36 into the match.

Taylan Entriken was defeated by Austin Yant of UNI in a 6-5 decision.
