On Wednesday afternoon, the Iowa State gymnastics program landed Phoebe Turner, a native of Great Britain. 

Turner is slated to start competition for Iowa State in 2019 and is the first of that recruiting class. She trains at The Academy of Gymnastics in Portishead, England, and is coached by Liz Kincaid, a renowned coach in Great Britain. 

“[Turner] is a very strong competitor yet very humble which I have found to be a rare combination,” said Iowa State gymnastics coach Jay Ronayne in a press release. “She excels at the highest level of the sport, yet is a very grounded young women. She is a perfect fit for the Cyclones.”

In 2016, Turner finished eighth in the all-around at the British Championships and took bronze on the floor. In 2017, she won gold on the balance beam at the British Championships.  

“She has a lot of high-level gymnastics skills that have kept her competitive internationally as well as success and experience in big competitions,” Ronayne said in the press release. “[Turner] is a well-balanced gymnast. She is very strong on all four events so I would anticipate her competing immediately for us in the 2019 season and making an impact in the all-around. I know she has a great NCAA career ahead of her.”
