Gordon Klatt and Marti Beck met in 1967 during their junior years at Iowa State. On their second date, Klatt asked Beck if she wanted to marry him, as a joke. They had a fake ceremony at Brookside Park on Nov. 11, 1967, and then a real ceremony five years later.
