Cyclone Marching Band

Student Government congratulated the Cyclone Football Varsity Marching Band during its meeting Wednesday night and for its “prestige and pride” it brings to the university.

The marching band was recently recognized with the Sudler Trophy.

The proclamation was written by Sen. Kylee Cox. It read that the band is “a quintessential part of every Iowa State University football game, providing entertainment through half-time shows and music that motivates our team and our crowd.”

The legislation was meant to congratulate the band on “winning of the Sudler Trophy, bringing an immense amount of prestige and pride to Iowa State University.”

The Sudler Trophy is known as the Heisman trophy of marching band.

It is given out on a biannual basis and is a traveling award, meaning a school can only have it for the year, and recognizes the schools that are of the highest musical standards as well as have a strong, rich history of excellence.

To receive the Sudler Trophy, one must contribute to the advancement of performance standards across the nation. A university can only receive the award once, and only 30 have been previously awarded to schools in its history.
