The Iowa State men’s golf team concluded the last day of the Marquette Intercollegiate Tuesday.

Iowa State scored 299 on the final round, the fifth lowest of the round, but only rose up one spot from the previous day. They ended in 13th place overall with a score of 911 (310-302-299).

The Cyclones were five strokes ahead of Northern Illinois 916 (312-305-299) and were nine strokes ahead of last place Augusta 920 (304-303-313).

Texas A&M won the overall tournament with a score of 866 (293-287-286), 11 strokes ahead of second place UCLA 877 (300-281-296), and 13 strokes ahead of third place hosts Marquette.

Harry Ellis out of Florida State, and Austin Kendziorski out of Marquette tied for first place.

Ellis soared above after scoring a 72 and pushed past second place.

The Cyclones were near the bottom of the leadership throughout the competition, but rose one spot on the leadership board, after a strong performance of true freshman Lachlan Barker.

Barker jumped up six spots to be tied for sixth place. His score of 217 (73-73-71) consisted by three birdies and two bogeys in his third round. This marks Barker’s first top-10 finish in his young career in Iowa State.

Redshirt senior Denzel Ieremia finished with a score of 225 (79-71-75). He finished tied for 27th place, three over the par.

He previously had two top-10 appearances in the Badger Invitational, Northern Intercollegiate.

His day started off below par, but faced struggles on his fifth hole going two over the par. Although he stayed even for most of the round, in his last hole, Ieremia went for a three-bogey.

Sophomore Tripp Kinney ended the competition tied for 70th, rising two spots from the second day of competition. His score of 77 in the last day gave him an overall 236 (77-82-77). For most of the competition Kinney did not manage to stay under the par.

Frank Lindwall ended the competition tied for 70th overall along with fellow Cyclone Kinney. His score of 236 (82-78-76), was brought by his staying even on most of the third-round holes, but he did bogey five times.

Danny Daniels 239 (81-80-78) ended up tied for 79th place, the same place he was after the second round of competition. Daniels had trouble staying under the par throughout the overall competition.

This marks the first time the Cyclones have not finished in the top-10 in any regular season competition in the 2017-18 season, and the first time since the General Hackler Championship on March 12, 2016.

Although that tournament ended a day early, the Cyclones ended in 11th place.

This young Cyclone team has failed to get anything higher than a top-3 finish so far, but have had at least one Cyclone finish in the top-10 in every tournament this season.

The Cyclones will be back on the course on October 8th and 9th for the Window Memorial hosted by Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois for their final competition of the fall season.
