StuGov agenda: Senate to possibly adopt new logo, discuss $15,000 in funding requests

Student Government senate meetings take place every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.

Student Government will discuss roughly $15,000 in funding requests during its meeting Wednesday evening.

Additionally, things may get a little spooky, too, as senators are encouraged to dress in their best — and most appropriate — Halloween costumes.

The senate will also discuss adopting a new logo and a possible bylaw change that strikes the current legislation that the senate can only consider funding requests during the first senate meeting of each month.

All in all, general orders include:

  • A funding request of $150 from Best Buddies for an event at Center Grove Orchard
  • A funding request of $870 for Break the Silence posters to be put up across campus
  • A funding request of $4,300 from the Black Student Alliance for its annual Winter Formal
  • A funding request of $10,000 for Project Jamaica — a club that offers alternative spring break service trips
  • A funding request of $232 for the next Student Government town hall for food
  • A resolution to adopt the new senate logo
  • And a request to change the Student Government bylaws

Sen. Sam Rankin also hopes to add a resolution to the agenda Wednesday evening that would show Student Government’s support for Open Educational Resources and Open Licensed Textbooks.

The resolution recommends that professors and instructors utilize the Open Educational Resources when possible as a cheaper alternative to textbooks or other course materials.

Lastly, the senate will discuss seating two new senators to the open UROC seats.
