Megan Lutz: Co-copy chief

Megan Lutz;

My position at the Iowa State Daily is one of the two co-copy chiefs. My job entails the editing, fact checking, headline writing and setting up of the pages each night. I’m the last one to see the paper each night, and the one who sends each page to the printer for the next morning.

I’ve always been more comfortable being the person to see a project in its final stages. The starting, brainstorming and planning out a project or story has never been something that I was particularly great at. I’d rather see it in the middle, or toward the end, where I can start the editing process.

I’m a sophomore in English and I often joke that grammar is my first love. I love Shakespeare, word play and analyzing each paragraph of a novel for symbolism and a deeper meaning.

Getting to work at the Daily and spend time with journalists has really made me think more critically about what’s going on in the world and understand the importance of the work journalists do. I’ve also had the chance to be more involved with Iowa State and gotten the chance to meet some of my closest friends.
