2017 Gridiron Staff Picks: Week 3
September 13, 2017
Every week during the year, Brian Mozey, Aaron Marner, Jack MacDonald and a special guest make their predictions for the Iowa State football game. Here are their predictions for the Cyclones’ week three against Akron at 11 a.m. on CBSSN.

Winner: Iowa State
Score: 42-17
Iowa State proved themselves against Iowa last weekend. Even with a loss, the Cyclones put 41 points on the board against a Big Ten defense. Against MAC, I see the results, but the Iowa State defense will step up and stop the veteran offense of Akron.
Jacob Park and his six wide receivers will have a big day in the air and David Montgomery will show his hometown family and friends a memorable performance. Stay tuned. It’s going to be a good win for the Cyclones.
Aaron Marner, Assistant Sports Editor (1-1)
Winner: Iowa State
Score: 52-20
Iowa State’s offense has torn through two defenses in two weeks. Akron’s defense gave up a 50-burger to Penn State in week one and the game was essentially over by halftime.
The same thing could happen here. Akron’s offense might make some big plays on Iowa State’s defense, but I don’t see Akron keeping up with the Cyclones for a full 60 minutes. Give me Iowa State in a blowout.
Jack MacDonald, Assistant Sports Editor (1-1)
Winner: Iowa State
Score: 45-21
Iowa State showed last weekend that they can put up points against a highly regarded defense, and luckily for the Cyclones’ offense this weekend, Akron isn’t a highly regarded defense. The Cyclones will have a field day against the Zips’ defense, especially Jacob Park after having a shaky showing against Iowa.
David Montgomery and the Iowa State rush game will be the key factor. Akron’s defense has given up an average of 144 yards on the ground in two games and if Montgomery can expose their defense, then watch out Akron, you are going to have a long, long day.

Winner: Akron
Score: 17-14
I sat and watched Iowa State ring in the season with a “W” against University of Northern Iowa. The next week Iowa State traded that “W” in for a big, fat “L” against University of Iowa.
During both of those games I watched the other team run Iowa State up and down the field with a few bad breaks for the Cyclone defense. I don’t believe that Iowa State will be able to keep up this type of luck, or skill, against Akron as we transition into the next week of match ups.
